Biotechnology

The Biotechnology Program focuses on the application of biotechnology in accelerating coconut production and utilization through tissue culture, genomics (gene expression) and DNA Marker technology-assisted crop improvement, crop protection and biofuels production. Salient aspects of the program are: Molecular disease diagnosis-CCCVd indexing, Mass production of biocontrol agents against coconut pests- baculovirus, Tissue culture (Coconut embryo culture, Somatic embryogenesis), Genomics (Genome mapping, Gene expression, DNA marker technology), Development of natural products and Biomass utilization (Coco ethanol production).

Generated information and technologies include:

  1. Coconut Cadang-Cadang Disease Primer
  2. Commercial Production of Makapuno Seedlings Using Embro Culture Technique
  3. Improved Mass Propagation Technique for Coconut
